CareerPath
(www.careerpath.com) has now become CareerBuilder
but still relies on the newspaper database Career Path was known for. There is a simple
search and a Mega Job Search which has some of the same features as the old Career Path.
Log In.Log in is a simple registration process that gives you the omnipresent User Name and Password. The interface is a bit different than the example but the idea is the same. There are some considerations right off the top:
Location Search.CareerBuilder is nicely ordered by region. Sometimes it's valuable to use as many regions as possible if you're looking for telecommute or freelance opportunities. Obviously, if you are looking in one specific area you can choose appropriately. |
The next thing you do is choose a category that best fits the sort of industry in which you want to find a writing job. CareerBuilder has around 80 categories, from Accounting to Word Processing. It includes Journalism/Writing, Publishing, and Technical Writing as part of the category base.
In my search for jobs I have always used Journalism/Writing, Publishing, and Research. Publishing has always yielded the most results. But don't limit yourself! Remember, you can run as many searches as you want in any given session.
The next task is to put in keywords to help the database find exactly what you're looking for.

CareerBuilder uses job sites that include newspaper databases. You can add databases by using the Step 5: Select Sites.
There is also a box for salary range that you can check or no.
Personally, I liked the old Career Path better but used well and this is a valuable resource.
